The latest trends in bathroom and tiles design from Cersaie 2018

Cersaie is the world’s most important international fair for ceramic tiles and bathroom design and it takes place in Bologna, Italy. It is also one of my favorite design fairs because it is a very good source for inspiration and to update with the latest trends in the bathroom design and tiles design for 2019, discovering the latest innovations and news.

Let’s do a quick recap about the news and trends from Cersaie 2018 in these points:

Maxi format versus Mini format

The latest trends in tiles design now follow two opposite directions: on the one hand, in fact, there are bigger and bigger tile formars, on the other side extra small formats.
The maxi format ceramic tiles today can reach over than 3 meters and they allow you to cover the surfaces with continuity and without joints. Thanks to thin and large formats, also, you can also cover furnishing elements, for example in the bathroom and in the kitchen, for an exclusive and minimalist total look.
On the opposite side, I found several proposals in mosaics and extra small tiles, including a very small format of 1,5 cm,  to achieve more and more creative effects.

Wallpaper

This year, the protagonists of Cersaie fair in Bologna were not only the tiles, but also wallpaper.
Far from being synonymous with “old style”, wallpaper is today a very contemporary solution to decorate your home with style. Geometric patterns, floral and tropical patterns, art-deco motifs, trompe d’oeil and stylized motifs: thanks to wallpapers, creativity has no limits.
Moreover, today wallpaper can also be used in the bathroom or in the kitchen, thanks to waterproof solutions designed to be used in wet rooms.

New effects with tiles

Thanks to the latest technology and to digital printing, today it is possible to reproduce any type of surface on the ceramic surface, with a truly realistic result.
This year at Cersaie there were really many proposals for ceramic with marble effect, especially in polished finished and a very textured surface, but also with the material effect of concrete, terracotta and stone.
Wood-effect ceramic tiles are still on the market, but in combination with more original effects, such as those of metal, of the Venetian terrazzo and of the fabric.

Colour everywhere, also in the bathroom

General talking, in the last year I noticed a strong return to color, together with an almost total disappearance of white.
The trend is confirmed in the bathroom, where even the bathroom fixtures are dressed in new colors to give designers an ever wider range of creative possibilities.
The brands are also exploring on highly customizable and tailor-made solutions, to offer design freedom also for the bathroom, together with an increasing research into energy saving technologies.
